The Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly in the Western Region led by the Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Madam Constance Baiden distributed some special items and cash to Persons Living with Disability in the Metropolis.
The items which were given to about 20 persons were deep freezers, double decker fridges, Ice Chests, drinks and sachet water, fufu pounding machine etc. other donations were in the form of E cash, school fees, medical bills, deposit for the supply provisions among others. This is the first batch of disbursement.
The Director of Social Welfare and Community Development intimated that this three percent of the common fund is earmarked for uplifting of
the economic fortunes of PWDs and assured them of the will power of the Government to continue to serve the good people of Ghana until their expectations were met.
The Director of Social Welfare and Community Development advised Persons with Disability to register at the Social Welfare Department.
She added that it was more advantageous for People with Disability to join the various Associations under Ghana Federation of the Disabled
(GFD). This, she said would help them benefit from other opportunities aside the Common Fund which does not come directly from government.
She indicated that, most Non-Profit Organizations and philanthropist who want to assist PWDs channelled it through the Associations.
