The Minister of Local Government, Decentralization and rural Development, Hon. Dan Botwe has pointed out that decentralization, when deepened brings about development at the local areas which is reflective at the national front. He indicated that all developed countries have their local councils at the center of managing their cities and therefore prevailed upon both staff of the Local Government Service and the political heads to work towards improving the lives of the local people. According to him, rendering the needed service to the local people is the core of local governance which ensures confidence of the local people in the policies, programmes and projects rolled out by city authorities and central government.

He expressed worry over why Assemblies struggle to pass District Performance Assessment Tool (DPAT) adding that it is just an assessment of one’s productive work and so if work and supervision is on top, there would not be the need to struggle through passing such assessment. During open forum, the Metropolitan Planning Co-ordinating Unit Head appealed for the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) Secretariat to add a component of renovation of Assembly structures so that the confidence in working will be boosted as the renovation by the Assemblies themselves is herculean for them to do. The Mayor of STMA, Hon. Abdul Mumin-Issah thanked the Hon. Minister for passing through and promised him that STMA would improve on work erformance for the betterment of the local people.
