The Western Regional Minister who doubles as the Ag. Metro Chief Executive of the Sekondi- Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly on Tuesday, 15th February, 2022 joined the Hon. Assembly Members of STMA to elect a Presiding Member of the second session of the Eighth (8th) Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly at the Assembly Chamber in Sekondi. Other dignitaries who graced the occasion are; Hon. Ignatius Asah-Mensah (NALAG Regional rep & DCE for Mpohor District Assembly) Hon. Emmanuel Mark Ackon (The Presiding Member for Shama District Assembly) and Rt Hon. John Davies (Presiding Member for EKMA).
The programme began at 11:20 with an opening prayer by Hon. Benjamin Arku. This was followed by the recitation of the national pledge. In his opening remarks, the Regional Minister, Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko welcomed all Hon. Members and urged them to conduct the election smoothly and peacefully.

The Regional Director of Electoral Commission, Mrs. Angelina Tagoe then took charge of proceedings and opened nominations for the position of the Presiding Member. After 20 minutes, only one nomination was received. Which means only the nomination of the immediate past Presiding Member, Hon John Kwesi Buckman was received. Fifty-two (52) Hon. Members out of the Fifty-seven (57) Members of the Assembly, were present and voted. Hon. John Kwesi Buckman was re-elected with an overwhelming endorsement of 89.49%. Thus, fifty-one (51) Members voted Yes and One (1) Member voted No.
After the declaration of Hon. John Kwesi Buckman as the newly elected Presiding Member of STMA, he was sworn into office by Her ladyship, Rosemary Edith Hayford (Sekondi District Magistrate). She administered the Oath of Office; the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Secrecy.

In his acceptance speech, the re-elected Presiding Member (Hon. John kwesi Buckman), expressed his appreciation to each and every one who voted for him as well as those who wanted to contest for the position but had to step down for some reasons. The meeting came to a successful end at 1:26 p.m. with a closing prayer by Hon. Tanko Ayuba.
