The Social Welfare Department of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), with the support of the Police Service, has arrested and sent a 49-year-old mentally challenged Samuel Arthur, popularly called Ekow, to the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital for treatment. The gentleman has been attacking drivers and pedestrians, causing damage to streetlights and vehicles around the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital intersection in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis. According to the Metro Director of Social Welfare, Madam Constance Baiden, her office received several complaints about the gentleman's conduct and decided to take the necessary collaborative steps to ensure he receives treatment. “The Assembly has paid a three-month deposit for his treatment and ensured that he is safely transported to the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital. We expect his family members to follow up and assist the gentleman by ensuring he complies with his medication”, the director said.
