Sanitation Challenge Quiz Competition.

As part of efforts to end Open Defecation along the coast of the Metropolis, three basic schools were selected to participate in a two-day capacity building on Sanitation and Health Promotion. These schools are; Rhyner Paul Catholic basic, Ngyeresia (Essikado-Ketan Sub Metro), Nana Nana Baidoo Bonsu M/A, New Takoradi (Takoradi Sub Metro) and Kow Nketsia AME Zion basic, Nkontompo. (Sekondi Sub-Metro). The capacity building organised for the selected schools and community leaders on sanitation and health promotion to end open defecation is a further indication of the Assembly’s commitment to end the problem of open defecation in the Metropolis especially along the coast. The Assembly on Wednesday 7th April, 2021 launched a campaign at Ngyeresia to end open defecation by 2024 in the Metropolis

As part of the campaign launch, a live radio programme carried by Skyy Power FM was held at Ngyeresia where key officers including myself took turns to discuss how we can collectively contribute to end open defecation in the Metropolis. In line with the campaign, three (3) billboards have been mounted (at Ngyeresia, Nkotompo and New Takoradi), 1,000 posters and 1,500 flyers have been developed and currently being distributed across the Metropolis to create Awareness on the campaign to end open defecation. The Assembly through the Metro Directorate of Education, Development Planning Unit and the Environmental Health Unit organised the Quiz Competition. The Quiz competition was held on Friday 30th July 2021 at the Sekondi Youth Centre. In all a total of four rounds were held. Round One (1) “General WASH Questions” Round Two (2) “Current Affairs” Round Three (3) WASH True/False and Round Four (4) WASH Riddle. At the end of the contest, Rhyner Paul Catholic basic, Ngyeresia pulled 112 points to emerge as the winner, followed closely by Kow Nketsia AME Zion basic, Nkontompo 109 points and Nana Nana Baidoo Bonsu M/A, New Takoradi 53 points. 1st Winning School: Rhyner Paul Catholic basic, Ngyeresia • A trophy • Certificate signed by the Metro Chief Executive & Metro Director of Education • GHC 1,000 cash • 50 pieces of T-shirts for the school pupils • 10 pieces of T-shirts (Lacoste) for the Teachers 2nd Winning School: Kow Nketsia AME Zion basic, Nkontompo • Certificate signed by the Metro Chief Executive & Metro Director of Education • GHC 500 cash • 50 pieces of T-shirts for the school pupils • 10 pieces of T-shirts (Lacoste) for the Teachers 3rd Winning School: Nana Baidoo Bonsu M/A, New Takoradi • Certificate signed by the Metro Chief Executive & Metro Director of Education • GHC 200 cash • 50 pieces of T-shirts for the school pupils • 10 pieces of T-shirts (Lacoste) for the Teachers Special Awards • 1st Winning School contestants: GHC 100 • 2nd Winning School Contestants: GHC 50 • 3rd Winning School Contestants: GHC 50
