The Western Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Takoradi Constituency, Hon. Kobina Okyere Darko-Mensah, has officially commissioned a newly constructed 60-bed health facility for the New Takoradi Community. The inauguration ceremony, held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, marked a milestone in the ongoing efforts to improve healthcare accessibility and quality for residents of the area. The New Takoradi Health facility, was initiated over two decades ago to serve the fishing community and neighbouring towns. The facility has grown from a Health Centre to a Polyclinic with 2-story, 4-unit two-bedroom nurses’ apartments. The newly commissioned 60-bed facility is equipped with modern medical equipment designed to provide comprehensive healthcare services. The facility aims to reduce the burden on the existing healthcare infrastructure and ensure that residents have access to essential medicalcare closer to home. Addressing the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Darko-Mensah highlighted the importance of the facility in addressing the healthcare needs of the New Takoradi community. "Today marks a significant step forward in our commitment to improving healthcare for our people. This facility will not only provide immediate medical care but also serve as a centre for preventive healthcare and health education," he said.

The MP also expressed gratitude to the people of Takoradi for the opportunity to serve them and assured the constituents of his commitment to using his position as their representative and the Regional Minister to lobby for more developments to improve their lives. He also thanked all stakeholders involved in the project, including the Ministry of Health, Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly and the contractor, for their support and collaboration. "This project would not have been possible without the collective effort and dedication of many individuals and organizations. We are truly grateful for their contributions and commitment to this cause," Hon. Darko-Mensah added. The Hon. Regional Minister also indicated that the ongoing construction of the Youth Development Center in the community, will also be completed and commissioned before the end of the year. The Minister noted that the centre would help train the youth to focus in acquiring skills and becoming entrepreneurs to create worth for themselves and the community. The inauguration event was attended by dignitaries, including the Mayor Sekondi-Takoradi, Hon Abdul Mumin Issah, Chief Director of the Western Regional Coordinating Council, Regional and Metro Directors of Health, and a cross-section of community leaders, and enthusiastic residents. The commissioning of the 60-bed health facility is part of a broader initiative by the Hon. MP to enhance infrastructure and social services in Takoradi.

As the new health facility opens its doors, it promises to bring improved health outcomes and a brighter future for the people of New Takoradi. The community eagerly anticipates the positive changes that this vital healthcare investment will bring. For his part, the Metropolitan Chief Executive for STMA, Hon. Abdul-Mumin Issah thanked the Hon. Minister for complementing the efforts of the Assembly by the provision of Healthcare for the people, he again appealed passionately to the community inhabitants and the caretakers of the Health Facility to make maintenance habitual to be deserving of much more opportunities from the Minister and the Assembly as well. He expressed the hope that the facility would serve its inhabitants well to keep them strong to work for both community and national development adding that in all aspects of human life, good health is paramount in achieving greater goals.
