LAWYER FREDERICK F. FAIDOO CONFIRMED AS SEKONDI-TAKORADI MCE

Lawyer Frederick F. Faidoo has been confirmed as the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) at a special Assembly Meeting held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Mr. Faidoo secured 41 out of 52 votes cast to cross the required two-thirds of members present and voting. The Electoral Commission supervised the confirmation process. The new Metropolitan Chief Executive was sworn into office by the Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Faidoo expressed his gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the nomination and to the assembly members for their support. He pledged to implement an open-door policy and work impartially with all stakeholders to advance the development of the Metropolis. He emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in addressing key issues such as sanitation and unauthorized development.

Mr. Faidoo highlighted his commitment to leaving legacy projects behind and called on everyone to focus on opportunities in the private sector to create more jobs for the unemployed. He acknowledged the arduous task ahead in developing the Metropolis and urged everyone to have a unity of purpose in the interest of sustainable development.

On his part, the special guest of honour for the ceremony Hon. Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, expressed his joy for the successful election of the Presiding Member and confirmation of the President’s nominee. He noted the Western Regional Coordinating Council’s preparedness to work closely with the Assemblies in the region to achieve the President’s vision of resetting Ghana. He called on all stakeholders to commit to the resetting agenda to ensure more development in the Metropolis and the region as a whole.

The confirmation ceremony was preceded by the swearing-in of seventeen (17) new government appointees and the election of Hon. Patrick Brempoh, Assembly Member for the Adiembra Electoral as the Presiding Member to steer the legislative functions of the Assembly after two unsuccessful attempts. Hon Brempong, thanked the Assembly Members for the honour and pledged to collaborate with all stakeholders especially, the technocrats, Assembly Members and the Members of Parliament to enhance local governance and bring development to the Metropolis.

The confirmation of the MCE and election of the Presiding Member are critical processes in strengthening local governance and ensuring effective leadership at the Metropolitan level. The Assembly anticipates full cooperation and participation of all stakeholders to ensure the successful tenure of the MCE and the Presiding Member.
