40 Persons with Disability Receive Support From STMA

The Social Welfare and Community Development Department (SWCD) of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) on Thursday, September 19, 2024, brought joy to 40 Persons with Disability (PWD) in the Metropolis with a presentation of various items, including deep freezers, fufu machines, hairdresser items, industrial machines, laptops and cash donations for medical bills and school fees, amounting to One Hundred and Thirty-Four Thousand, Seven Hundred and Two Ghana Cedis (GHC 134,702.00). The Metro SWCD Officer, Madam Constance Baiden, pointed out that the disbursement is from the District Assemblies Common Fund allocation for the PWDs, which seeks to support beneficiaries for decent and independent lives.

She indicated that the items were purchased based on the request of beneficiaries to enable them venture into small businesses to take care of themselves and their families. The Metro Chief Executive, Hon. Abdul-Mumin Issah, indicated that the gesture was the government’s demonstration of commitment to the well-being of our vulnerable members in society. He revealed that all the items had been embossed and advised against selling but for their intended purposes. He admonished them to use the items to make a living for themselves, adding that the SWCD team will embark on regular monitoring to ensure that the items are used purposely. He expressed the hope that the gesture would help improve their living conditions.
