STMA Hands Over 1,500 Dual Desks to Education Directorate

The Metropolitan Directorate of Education in Sekondi-Takoradi has taken delivery of one thousand five hundred (1500) dual desks from the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly to augment education essentials needed at schools to boost performance. At a short handing over ceremony, the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Abdul-Mumin Issah noted that provision of the furniture forms part of the Assembly’s commitment to ensure school children have a serene and comfortable zone to acquire knowledge. He added that the desks were produced and supplied by GETFund as part of nationwide support to public schools to improve teaching and learning. He expressed the hope that the desks would be well taken care of by the beneficiary schools to ensure that those who are in need of similar support would be served when the Assembly takes delivery of more furniture. The Metropolitan Director of Education for STMA, Madam Sally Nelly Coleman was thankful for the gesture and indicated that schools that are in dire need of the furniture would be served first. She mentioned that there are some newly constructed schools that needs furniture adding that the mode of distribution would be mainly based on the needs assessment conducted by the directorate. She however, expressed concern over the quality of materials used for the desks and appealed for such to be considered since the metropolis falls in he coastal line and rusty elements do not last long in such areas. She added that since children would be using the furniture, the exposed bolts could be injurious to them. She was optimistic that the furniture would supplement the equipment at the schools to aid teaching and learning. She made it known that sixty-four (64) schools would benefit from the gesture.
