Members of the 9th Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly have participated in a comprehensive training program designed to enhance their understanding of local governance and Ghana’s decentralization policy. This initiative is part of a nationwide effort to equip assembly members with the needed skills to perform their roles effectively. During the training, the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Abdul-Mumin Issah, emphasized the importance of embracing new ideas and approaches to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of local governance. He encouraged Assembly Members to engage actively, ask questions, and use this opportunity to deepen their understanding of their responsibilities, highlighting that their decisions significantly impact the community.
Dr. Audrey Smoke Amoah, a facilitator from the Office of Head of Local Government Service (OHLGS), outlined the collaborative nature of the program developed in partnership with the Institute of Local Government Studies, Accra. She stressed the importance of continuous earning and informed participants that they would receive certificates upon completion of the training, underscoring the need for active participation. The Metro Co-ordinating Director, Mr. Innocent Haligah, reinforced the necessity of having a well-trained assembly to drive development in the metropolis. He assured members that management would provide ongoing support and training opportunities to enhance their deliberative capabilities. This training aims not only to refresh existing knowledge but also to empower assembly members to better serve their constituents, he added.
