The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly has begun an exercise to replace malfunctioning street light bulbs in all the electoral areas within the metropolis to illuminate the communities, thereby reducing criminal activities occurring underthe cover of darkness. The Metro Electrical Engineer, Mr. Roland Fynn-Wilson, pointed out that Seven Hundred and Twenty (720) lamps will be fixed in all 36 electoral areas, adding that 20 malfunctioning street lights would be replaced in each electoral area. He further noted that eleven (11) communities in the Sekondi and Essikado-Ketan Sub-Metros have, so far, had their lights fixed. He hinted that his team would continue the exercise to cover all the electoral areas to ensure the security that comes with illumination is wholly achieved. The Metropolitan Chief Executive of STMA, Hon. Abdul-Mumin Issah, hinted that the move to illuminate the communities is geared towards improving security in the metropolis. He added that lighting the communities was a first step in supporting the police to protect lives and properties. He was optimistic that the ongoing exercise would enhance brightness in the communities and reduce petty crimes.
