The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly has held its first ordinary meeting of the third session with a call to the Members of the Assembly to faithfully serve their electorates and the Assembly, build cordial relationships with traditional leaders and other stakeholders for peace and development in their respective electoral areas. Addressing the meeting, the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. To improve sanity in the Metropolis, the Assembly has commenced a process to recruit twenty-three (23) Metro Guards. The recruits will undergo a one-month intensive residential training at the 2BN in Takoradi, whilst other officers and men of the Guards Unit will also receive refresher training to boost their professional skills, the mayor stated.
He was grief-stricken by the seven lives lost due to the Ngyiresia Landing Beach fire incident. He indicated that the Assembly supported the victims with GH¢10, 000.00 and would continue to follow up on their treatment till they regain their health. He, therefore, appealed to Hon. Touching on waste management, the mayor pointed out that the Assembly has evacuated an old-age heap refuse at Ntankoful and covered it properly, adding that plans are in place to evacuate other heap refuse sites at Upper New Takoradi, Kansaworado and Kweikuma to improve sanitation in the city.
The mayor informed members of the Sekondi-Takoradi Market and Transport Infrastructure Project aimed to construct or redevelop the following projects. The Sekondi Central Market, Automated Multi-storey carpark in Takoradi, Eburufom Market and Main Spain (Amanful Electoral Area), Haulage Terminal at Sofokrom and Bus Terminal at Nkroful junction. He stated that the project has passed the procurement process, and a transactional advisor, Price Water House Coopers, has been engaged to conduct full feasibility and selection of suitable private investors for the projects. He also announced to the meeting an impending celebration of the EU-funded TCSPP Transnational Cultural Festival dubbed the “Sakeva Festival”. He indicated that the event, is aimed at promoting the artworks of local artists, heritage sites, artefacts and cultural celebrations in the Metropolis. He urged the Hon. Members to fully participate in the 4-day event with activities such as a symposium on Arts and Tourism, a visual arts festival for students, a cooking competition and a fashion show.
