MP For Essikado-Ketan Pays a Courtesy Call on The Management of STMA
by STMA / Jan 3rd, 2025 /

Management of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has held its maiden staff durbar for 2025 to address the issues of workplace culture, welfare and programmes outlined for the year. As part of the meeting, Gateway Eye Care, Ghana Revenue Authority and GCB Sekondi Branch addressed the staff on eye-related issues and screening, Income Tax and Tax relief, and Retail Banking Solutions, respectively. In his address, the Human Resources Manager, Mr. Iddrisu Mumuni, emphasized that the agenda for the meeting was planned to meet the staff's needs and support their personal and professional growth. He noted that periodic staff meetings are essential for any organization to provide staff with an opportunity to receive information from management and concerns that need prompt attention and foster harmonious relationships among staff. The City Manager of the Assembly, Mr. Innocent Haligah, also spoke to the staff, informing them that some concerns raised in the previous staff durbar, such as the renovation of the washrooms, had been addressed. He urged staff to maintain cleanliness in the sanitary areas to avoid future complaints. Furthermore, he encouraged staff to take their welfare seriously, highlighting the importance of establishing a formal welfare structure to standardize processes during events.

Mr. Haligah also advised staff to be mindful of their language and refrain from reporting colleagues to politicians, emphasizing that neutrality in the Local Government Service is paramount. “All reports made about staff and superiors eventually reach management, so let us focus on our work, keeping in mind that postings are part of our responsibilities, which can benefit everyone,” he stated. During the open forum, some staff members expressed gratitude to management for organizing the event. They also requested fair treatment for staff in cases of bereavement and other life events. Mr. Haligah assured them that the adoption of the new staff welfare constitution would address these disparities. However, the meeting failed to adopt the new staff welfare constitution, as the document had only been provided shortly before the meeting. Some staff members felt that after their input was considered after the last durbar, the constitution should have been made available for proper review before final adoption.
