The newly appointed Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) the Western Naval Command, Commodore Samuel Ayelazono, has paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of Sekondi-Takoradi, Hon. Fredrick F. Faidoo, to introduce himself and discuss collaborative initiatives aimed at strengthening the relationship between the Command and the Assembly.
At the meeting held at the Mayor’s office, the Mayor welcomed and congratulated the FOC on his appointment. During the meeting, the Mayor reiterated the Assembly’s plans to regenerate colonial-era buildings within European Town, located in the catchment of the Command, as part of the tourism development agenda. The Mayor noted that the regeneration project forms part of the Assembly’s broader vision to position the Metropolis as a key tourism destination in the Western Region.
Commodore Ayelazono also briefed the Mayor on the Command’s proposal to redevelop its Officers’ Mess into a modern hospitality and events centre, designed to serve both naval personnel and the general public. He requested the Assembly’s technical and regulatory support to facilitate the project’s successful execution.
In addition, the Flag Officer Commanding extended a formal invitation to the Mayor to attend the Annual Memorial Day of the Western Naval Command, which honours fallen naval officers who dedicated their service to the nation. The three-day programme, he said, will involve a drill competition for Secondary Schools cadets, media outreach, a lecture and book launch, and a parade.
Mayor Frederick Faidoo welcomed the proposals and commended the Command for its forward-looking vision. He assured Commodore Ayelazono of the Assembly’s commitment to strengthening the already cordial relationship between the two institutions, noting that such collaborations would augment the civil and military relationship in the Metropolis. The Mayor also wished the Commodore every success in his tenure as head of the Western Naval Command.
