The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has engaged the Muslim clergy and the Zongo chiefs as part of the new Mayor’s familiarization meetings with stakeholders. At the meeting, the new Mayor, Hon. Fredrick Faustinus Faidoo, urged the clergy to continuously pray for him and his team at the Assembly to achieve the resetting agenda for Sekondi-Takoradi.
The Mayor noted that the spiritual development of the Metropolis, is as important as physical infrastructure such as roads and environmental sanitation. He, therefore, encouraged the clergy to continue developing the spiritual needs of their members whilst the Assembly strived to deliver the socio-economic needs of the people.
Speaking on behalf of the clergy, Mustapha Tijani Raji acknowledged the Assembly's effort to engage the leaders of the Muslim communities to discuss issues of common interest. He, however, expressed concern over the lack of consultation on the reconstruction of the Sekondi to Takoradi road and the decision to close the turn from Sekondi Zongo junction towards Takoradi. He further requested the Assembly to improve the Sekondi Zongo inner roads to ease the burden created by the reconstruction of the Sekondi to Takoradi road.
The team also raised concerns about the encroachment of the Sekondi Islamic Clinic land and the need to fence the property. They appealed for the Assembly’s support to host the National Ramadan Conference next year in the Western Region. They also mentioned their plan to construct an office for the regional Chief Imam and requested the Assembly’s support.
In response, Hon. Faidoo thanked the clergy for their time and reiterated the Assembly's commitment to maintaining a fruitful relationship for the collective development of the Metropolis. He assured them of the Assembly’s support in any possible way to address all the issues.
On his part, the Acting Metro Coordinating Director, Ing. Michael Dzisi, assured the team that the Assembly would facilitate a meeting between the consultant, contractor and the Zongo chiefs to address some of the issues they raised on the reconstruction of the Sekondi to Takoradi road.
