Officials of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) have formally taken practical possession of two newly completed 3-unit classroom blocks, along with office and store facilities at Inchaban Nkwanta MA Basic and Bishop Sam Memorial Catholic Basic School (formerly Bishop Essuah Catholic Basic School) in Inchaban Nkwanta and Takoradi, respectively.
The Metro Works Engineer, Mr. Benjamin Aidoo, stated that the contractor, Messrs Western Vicbeck Enterprise, completed the projects in three months. He explained that the practical handing-over allows the schools to begin using the facilities for six months before the final handover. During this period, any defects identified will be the contractor’s responsibility to fix. Mr. Aidoo, therefore, urged the head teachers of respective schools to take good care of the new facilities.
The Metro Superintendent of Schools, Rev. Fitzgerald Josiah Kwofie, expressed optimism that the new buildings are likely to help improve enrollment in the schools. He also urged the head teachers to focus on maintenance of the facilities to ensure their longevity for teaching and learning. He further emphasized that the Assembly has provided its part, teachers and students in the beneficiary schools are equally expected to work hard and improve their academic results.
Hon. F. F. Faidoo, the Metropolitan Chief Executive of STMA, acknowledged the significant support of the Catholic Church and assured that the government remains committed to supporting its partners in achieving development goals. He stated, “It is the government’s desire to promote education at all levels,” adding that furniture will be provided to enable students to start learning in the new classrooms.
He concluded by expressing hope that the new facilities would significantly enhance teaching and learning, leading to improved academic outcomes.
