The Management of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has engaged a team for the Ghana Urban Mobility and Accessibility Project (GUMAP II) at the mayor's office. The meeting, which forms part of ongoing stakeholder engagements, focused on assessing progress, implementation, and future collaborations on key urban mobility initiatives within the metropolis.
Led by the mayor, Hon. Frederick F. Faidoo, the STMA highlighted their priorities in improving transportation infrastructure, market accessibility, and pedestrian safety. He expressed the Assembly’s readiness and commitment to implement the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) and other outcomes from the intervention.
After the meeting, both teams embarked on a field visit to the Kojokrom Market and the Takoradi Market Circle reconstruction site. The visit provided the team with an opportunity to evaluate on-ground realities, interact with the contractor for the Market Circle project, and assess the impact of mobility enhancements on economic activities and urban movement.
Phase two of the Ghana Urban Mobility and Accessibility Project (GUMAP II) aims to improve mobility and accessibility within the metropolitan areas of Sekondi-Takoradi, Tamale and Accra. The project is financed by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and implemented by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs (MLGCRA).
The first phase of GUMAP was implemented in Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA). The project focuses on capacity building, institutional strengthening, and limited investments to improve Urban Mobility and Accessibility. The project's goal is to enhance urban planning, address the lack of a strategic framework, and improve the capacity of technical staff to manage urban mobility issues.
