MAYOR ENGAGES ESHIEM RESIDENTS ON DEVELOPMENT PRIORITIES

by STMA / March 25th, 2026 /

The Mayor of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), Hon. F. F. Faidoo, together with his management team, on Thursday, April 16, 2026, held a community engagement with residents of Eshiem in the Anoe Electoral Area of the Essikado-Ketan Sub-Metropolitan District Council. The engagement formed part of the Assembly’s ongoing efforts to deepen participatory governance and strengthen collaboration with communities on local development priorities.

Addressing the gathering, Hon. Faidoo highlighted key projects and interventions undertaken by the Assembly since he assumed office less than a year ago. He disclosed that a total of 21 development projects have been awarded on contract, funded through the Assembly’s 2025 allocation of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

Among the projects is the ongoing construction of a community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound at Eshiem. The Mayor explained that the new facility is expected to replace the existing CHPS structure, currently operating from a single makeshift room. He added that the new health centre will not only serve residents of Eshiem but also the surrounding communities, including Ntamakrom.

Hon. Faidoo emphasized that the purpose of the engagement was to solicit the views and concerns of residents on development issues, while also providing updates on the Assembly’s performance and ongoing initiatives.

Residents, in turn, raised a number of pressing concerns affecting the community. Key among them was the frequent disruption of electricity supply, which they attributed to the limited capacity of the only transformer serving the entire area. They also lamented poor telecommunication network coverage in Eshiem and adjoining communities, calling on the Mayor to engage network operators to improve service delivery.

Other development needs outlined by the residents included the provision of mechanized boreholes to address water challenges, renovation and expansion of the local basic school, improvement of inner roads, and the construction of a market and public toilet facilities.

The well-attended programme brought together community members, media representatives, and civil society organizations, providing a platform for constructive dialogue and shared commitment towards the development of Eshiem and its surrounding communities.
